Can Anxiety Be Normal?

Dealing With Anxiety

Do you know that anxiety is a normal emotion?  God wired our brains to react to stress and danger.  Like flashing lights on emergency vehicles, anxiety serves the purpose of warning. A warning light tells us to slow down and take notice.

Everyone feels anxious at times. Occasional anxiety is to be expected. However, when we find ourselves lingering in those valleys of anxiousness, we want to dive deeper as to why.

The Difference Between Occasional Anxiety & Lingering Anxiety

It’s reasonable to ask ourselves, “Is there a medical imbalance in my body?”
“Am I having irrational thoughts?” In these instances, it might be necessary to contact a medical or mental health professional.

We can also ask, “Is there a reasonable purpose for my unease?” “Is my concern increasing?”

Imagine you’re juggling multiple responsibilities, your to-do list is piling up, and you constantly feel like you’re falling short. In these situations, it’s not uncommon for our anxiety levels to rise. We start striving for what seems just out of reach but still within our line of vision.

When obtainable dreams remain only dreams for weeks, months, or years, they can soon feel unobtainable. Disappointment and angst may creep in.

Feelings of worry can enter through emotional fatigue. This often keeps us from moving forward where joy can be found.

When our emotional warning lights attempt to take up residency, we can take positive action to evict them.

How Can We Move Forward In Life When We Feel Anxiety?

Where do you go when you find the weight of worry pulling you down?  Do you surround yourself with encouragement, or are you tempted to press the gas and move faster while the bright lights continue to flash?

Scripture reminds us that anxiety in our hearts weighs us down, but good words make us glad.  By including words of encouragement and truth in your life, you can begin to release the weight of anxiety. Are good words a significant part of your life?

When we commit to having a heart of gratitude, we actively replace worry with God’s peace. We can’t live in peace and worry together. Can you identify which one the Lord offers? It’s the one I want to choose. How about you?

Consider three things you are grateful for, and then turn them into thankful praise before the Lord.

Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down,
But a good word cheers it up.
Proverbs 12:25 ESV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6 ESV
